Boys Town Pediatric Weight Management, known as the SPARK clinic, hosted a one-day camp focused on teaching kids healthy habits.

“The purpose of the camp was to offer patients in the SPARK program a day of fun summer games, hands-on learning activities, health and nutrition education and a chance to make friends with other kids in our program,” said Carly Rupiper, APRN. “Summer can be a hard time for kids to be healthy. When kids are out of school, many don’t have activities to keep them busy. This can lead to a lot of boredom eating, decreased activity, excessive screen time and dysregulated sleep. Not all kids have the opportunity to play outside during the day because they either don’t have an adult home with them, don’t live in a safe area or the weather is too hot.”

This was the first year SPARK offered the camp, and the coordinators were excited to have 19 participants, ranging in age from 9 to 16. Many of the campers have already asked when the camp would be held next year. Congratulations to the SPARK clinic on a successful inaugural event!
