Cochlear Implant Vaccinations
Cochlear implant recipients are at increased risk of bacterial meningitis (infection around the brain) because the cochlear implant electrode is placed in the inner ear. Also, some patients have inner ear anatomy that increases the risk for meningitis. All cochlear implant recipients must receive a bacterial meningitis vaccination before surgery.
